Remember watching this years ago and wanted to revisit some very happy memories. This is the tale of 3 friends, young, blue collar adults who hope to make it in the performing arts. Please try againSorry, we failed to record your vote. Seriously, the best dancing of the whole movie was in the intro scene, the rest is just jerky, flailing around and falling on the ground. What a feeling! Flashdance is one of the must have dance movies. Not a brilliant transfer but marginally better than my DVD, picture quality still a bit grainy but that may be intentional as it adds to the artistic feel. The protagonist is annoying and unlikable. About 3/4 the way through I saw a glimmer of a piece of some kind of storyline - she wanted to get into dance school. Today this film is often dismissed as trashy, but it was ground-breaking at the time & the hit songs are still popular, though the hair-styles do date the film. Took me back in time, and remembered how much I enjoyed the music, and rockn' those torn sweatshirts when the movie was first released. The only thing it really has on its side is Nostalgia and its soundtrack but as a film viewing experience its dull and uninvolving. Flahdance is a very retro, cheesy entertaining film that is at no point boring and never drags, and is also a very clear symbol of the great 1980s and the night club exotic dancing scene of the time. I stopped watching with about 15 minutes left of the movie because I just couldn't watch it anymore. Nearly plotless with bad 80's dancing, a soundtrack full of duds, a body double dancer that they don't even try to hide their face and is clearly not the lead actress and a simply boring story that just kind of meanders around for 90 minutes.
Everything I expected, brilliant. Still highly recommended.

Although I watched this years ago, it is still as entertaining to watch today. I was a kid in the 80's and never got to watch this movie until now. Today, I was distracted by immaturity of the main character to the point where I didn't like her and wasn't vested in her success. Just sex, bad dancing, sex, bad dancing .... ad nauseam. Laugh at the dopey plot and listen to the great tunes. Five years later, Tony Manero's Saturday Night Fever is still burning. Needless to say the soundtrack is brilliant. Even though Jennifer Beals is not a trained dancer and the main dance, that wins the audition towards the end of the story, is made up of several different dancers, it is so well orchestrated and choreographed, you cannot tell that it is not her good self!
