To this day, I still have a soft spot for LEGO semis.I don't understand negative comments about System pieces in Technic sets. I ended up piecing together my own copy of 5580, semi-recently (pun intended), through my own inventory and lots of help from Bricklink. Husband loved it, kept him quiet for about three days, one slight niggle, there were about five missing pieces, but hubby had got spare anyhow so didn't need to request replacements thankfully. Building it was fun and it keeps drawing attention to it. When Mack Trucks first introduced the Anthem in 2017, it was to fill a perceived gap that existed in its lineup.
This is the first time I've had pieces missing from lego I bought. Its been a long time since I built lego. It’s always cool to see athletes or celebrities having fun with LEGO.But this one is dull! They would be too big, so instead axles with bushes on the top are employed, pushed up by a cam shaft made using six 2l beams with an axle hole.As a result the cylinder movement is not accurate because, as you'd expect given the parts used, the cam offset is 90 degrees, so during the cycle two cylinders 'fire', followed by another two, followed by one and then the last one. It’s all systems go for Mack Trucks North America, as from January this year the company swings into action to deliver the latest addition to the Mack Trucks range, the Anthem, on the American market. I also think that the colours could be better displayed you can hardly figure out the colours and many time had to take it a part again as I had added the wrong colour.
A lot of System parts have been used to create the curved lines around the front wheels, the headlight arrays, the steps to the cab. I'm only a Technic fan on off days, so I just don't know whether I'm supposed to be a purist and shun the studdy bits, or just enjoy the fantastic end result. The rear trailer legs and crate lift are flimsily. As a kid in the 80's and 90's, I was fascinated with 5580 (Highway Rig) and other Model Team sets. Bought this as a birthday present for my husband from the dog (first I'd ever heard of a dog giving presents, but I was informed the day before his birthday that he expected one from her!). At first glance you might be hard pressed to tell it's actually a Technic model.Packed within it is a very clever steering mechanism that's coupled to the steering wheel, something that's rare in sets these days.The trailer is more 'traditional studless Technic' than the Anthem but that's not a bad thing at all. Wow, I thought Lego was bringing back Model Team--it's incredible that -technic- is now looking this good.
