Whenever it’s on Thai soil, the film moves with tightened urgency and vigor: Ronald Plante’s camerawork, crisp and handsome throughout, gains in humid restlessness as it travels from the serene, misted vistas of British Columbia. That’s not to say a film can’t be compelling without holding some cards back, but Aside from maybe two scenes, there’s not a big deal made about the moral ethics of potentially endangering one’s family further versus shining a light on abuse of power. Titled Target Number One outside the USA, Most Wanted is a exactly what you think it might be, Crime Thriller based on the true story about aforementioned Investigative Journalist Victor Malrek and Alain Olivier; who for the sake of this film is called Daniel Léger. Along with Pilon’s striking performance, the film’s sturdy, subdued craftsmanship keeps it from movie-of-the-week territory, even as Roby’s script ticks overly familiar boxes.
