Pataudi was established in 1804 by the British East India Company, when Faiz Talab Khan, an Afghan Muslim Pashtun of the Barech tribe, who was made the first Nawab, aided them in their battle against the Maratha Empire, during the Second Anglo-Maratha War. Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi nicknamed, Tiger Pataudi was an Indian cricketer and former captain of the Indian cricket team.
Just six months after the tragic accident, he was called up to represent India in December 1961. He was born on 5th January, 1941. Pataudi did not play at all in 1935 and 1936 and only five times altogether in 1937 and 1938.
He was actually appointed captain for the India tour of England in 1936, but withdrew at the last moment, ostensibly on health grounds.
The idea was that he could watch the players in the winter series against the visiting Australians led by Jack Ryder and pick the side he wanted but the advance planning came to nothing when Pataudi withdrew in February claiming he was not fully fit.

Pataudi followed in the footsteps of Ranji and Duleep by scoring a hundred at the SCG on his Ashes debut (which was also his Test debut). His nickname ‘Tiger’ came from his fierce and aggressive personality. He played in his third and last Test for England in June 1934, against Australia at Trent Bridge, scoring 12 and 10. It was ten years later that he finally led an Indian team to England, although it was not a very well conceived move.
