The trail’s parking area is free, but is often full as the trail is popular with tourists and locals. As the trail rises, you'll start to get a better view of the canyon itself, as well as the Pacific Ocean to your south.After a few steep switchbacks, the Rising Sun Trail descends back into Solstice Canyon near a creek, putting you near the ruins of the Tropical Terrace Mansion, which burned down in 1982. Started to get crowded around 10am when we went in a Sunday.Pretty great trail, the ruins were fun to look at and the waterfall was small but really cute.
The Rising Sun and Sosotmo Trails are less-traveled than the paved road, and offer more privacy. The ranch ruins and the small waterfalls were a nice mid-hike bonus.It’s like a hard walk in the park.
Located about a 5 minute drive from Malibu Pier, Solstice Canyon is a picturesque 4-5 mile canyon trail loop in the heart of the Santa Monica Mountains. Our perennial waterfall is a popular hiking destination, and along the way you might encounter acorn woodpeckers, alligator lizards, fence lizards, or a red-tailed hawk soaring overhead.Proximity to the beach makes this an extremely popular destination on weekends.
Very cool ruins and the sound of running water is nice. The trail continues up to The Robert’s House, which was designed by renewed architect Paul Revere Williams in 1952.
The trail is primarily used for hiking, running, and nature trips and is accessible year-round. Completed this with a toddler no problem.
Lovely hike. Surrounded by billionaires’ private property. This is really a fun place to explore! Arrived at 9:30 on a Friday and nabbed one of the last spots in the lower lot.
You need to be early as parking is limited. Parking is not plentiful... and not everywhere on the street is okay (get got a ticket even though there was no sign prohibiting it). We arrived around 8:00 am and have to park in the back flow. It’s actually pretty beautiful. The parking lot was reasonably-sized but gets packed quickly. Round trip was 4 miles.
There are exotic plants, lovely pools, a 30 foot waterfall (if there has been rain recently), and a hidden statue of the Virgin Mary just before you cross the creek heading into the ruins. Not a lot of shade throughout the trail. “ Hike: There are a few different trails from the start (TRW Loop, Rising Sun Trail, Solstice Canyon Trail). The trail on the hill was steeper than we planned for but it was a beautiful view!Lovely hike, great workout if you do the full distance.
Would do again and recommend!Ok trail.
Some of the highlights include the oldest still-standing stone building in Malibu, a small waterfall and creek, and several ruins - including the ruins of a moderate mansion. Good for the whole family.Great hike! The house was destroyed in a 1982 wildfire and today hikes can explore the areas remnants.Shortly past The Robert’s House is the Solstice Canyon Waterfall. Solstice is a trail of its own leading to the ruins and waterfall.
I loved the history behind the parkThis is a good family hike and it’s dog friendly. Trail to the waterfall is near the tropical terrace and a little hidden.

the whole hike has pretty views although outside of the waterfall shaded area it is pretty dry this time of year. Much more of a “walk” than a hike. There are shaded areas but also open areas. Prepare to not have any cell service (even in the parking lot).
Hikers today can explore the house's ruins.Solstice Canyon is preserved by the National Park Service.
I did it counterclockwise (followed the AllTrails arrows) and it appears to have made it a bit more challenging (fine by me). You need sun screen. Great shady area on one side and the other side has great views or vice versa depends on where you start. Description This roughly 3 mile loop begins from the Solstice Canyon parking lot, located off of Corral Canyon Rd.
Run up the road at the end of the parking lot where the trailhead is. Great view.

Known as the Solstice Canyon Loop Trail, this stunning hike traverses through burned down houses that are delightfully creepy and leads to a gorgeous waterfall (that actually had water, thanks to the recent rain!) You gotta take the same trail down. Wear sun screen.
