She was cold, calculating and ruthless which made her perfect for the role she was cast into.
Anderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie Judge who has psychic powers due to genetic mutation resulting from radiation exposure. Mega-City One (in) is a megalopolis of 400 million people.
Plus the comic-accurate mutant Angel Family (Pa, Junior, Link and Mean Machine) encountered in the Cursed EarthRuthless crime boss and drug dealer Ma-Ma (Lena Headey), and her heavily armed gang of amusingly ineffective henchmen. She was far from the stereotypical cackling super villain type that is so overdone in comic book based movies, I personally found her very refreshing, she was my favourite element of the movie.Ma-Ma was too understated for a film where they stayed true to the source material when it came to Dredd himself. Welcome to Mega-City One, a city of over 400 million people – every one of them a potential criminal.
In Judge Dredd vs. Zombies you must protect Mega-City One from a zombie invasion. I have to disagree with your perspective on Ma-Ma, I think her low mood personality made her out as quite terrifying. It seemed as if every villain in the 90s had to act like the Joker from the 1989 Batman film. The reason the first one grossed so much money was because there was so much excitement for it, so many fans were clamouring for a Judge Dredd movie since the mid 80’s, if you read the comics you would know this, so that’s a decade of pent up excitement, of course the movie is going to gross a lot.
The inherent awesomeness of Von Sydow is sadly stifled by the endlessly obnoxious "comic relief" of SchneiderAnderson (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie Judge who has psychic powers due to genetic mutation resulting from radiation exposure. Bravo to Ms. Headey for providing a great performance, and obviously also to Karl Urban and Olivia Thirlby for their top-notch portrayals of their characters. Frankly, if I came across a person like her, she’d share the daylights out of me. Released in2003, it is playable onWindows,PlayStation 2,XboxandGameCube. I still am annoyed by Tommy Lee Jones doing a Nicholson as The Joker impression when he played Two-Face.Comics by the book, I don’t think so!, just check the box office from 1995 and 2012 movies/Judge Dredd 1995 34, 000, 000/ Judge Dredd 2012, 13, 000, 000 on the first month gross box officeThat doesn’t prove anything. Judge Hershey (Diane Lane), Chief Justice Fargo (Max Von Sydow), and annoying criminal sidekick Fergee (Rob Schneider).
This was a great film that left the Stallone adaption in the dust, no question. While I agree with everything else, Armand Assante was campy and over the top, he didn’t act as if he belonged in the world of Dredd at all…in fact e was made up for the film. With Toby Longworth, Teresa Gallagher, Nicholas Briggs, Jez Fielder. (Besides, the more colorful variations of gangs would have made for a more interesting visual. She has zero morality or compassion towards human beings and regards the hundreds of thousands of residents in Peach Trees as little more than insects, especially as evidenced in wiping out hundreds of them in a particular attempt to kill the two Judges and Kay.At the same time, you get the impression that – despite her non-existent sense of morality and her own dulled or dead emotions towards the ordeals in the life she’s lived – she can’t help but secretly welcome the day she meets her maker. In real life, criminals such as herself rarely live up to the stereotypical movie baddies overacted by so many. Judge Dredd (Sylvester Stallone) vs Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) I am admittedly not the biggest Judge Dredd fan in the world but even with my cursory knowledge of the character from the very few issues of 2000 AD I have read, I know two things about Dredd: (1) He is not to ever be played for campy laughs (2) He should not take off the helmet. The Judge Dredd is the most respected of …
)The helmet and oversized shoulder pads are close to the comic version... but Stallone ditches them for good after 15 minutes of screentimeDREDD dialed down the cartoonish outfit for more practical body armor... and like the comic character, Urban never removes his helmetEveryone (even out in the Cursed Earth) is familiar with the reputation of Dredd -- his name incites quivering fear or anxious bravadoAside from the crooked Judges who show up to eliminate Dredd, for some reason nobody seems to know Mega City One's top cop (unlike the comic, where Dredd's name and presence are immediate cause for alarm among the perp population) The script provides some unfortunate one-liners for Stallone to slur, and clumsily attempts to "humanize" a character that is essentially the embodiment of fascist satire on the pageUrban (or his chin, anyway) gives his best deadpan Eastwood rasp and keeps the character's perpetual scowl, and while the script almost entirely strips the comics' satirical elements, his Dredd remains the relentless, excessively violent personification of Mega City One's lawAn overcrowded, multi-tiered high-tech metropolis filled with hovering vehicles and ubiquitous advertisingConcrete, grime and green lighting.
