So, if you like the feeling of being secluded, away from the highway and the busy city, then this place is for you. This is a great camping spot in the middle of nowhere. Santa Margarita Lake is just a 15-20 minute walk down the road. The bathhouse was clean and the campground was clean.

We closed the windows of our hybrid trailer and turned on the ac. Most of the roads are unpaved, but well maintained. Lake has camping sites too, several boat launches, nice hiking trails, fishing, but no swimming.
It is a very large KOA and the property is quite hilly. Confirmed by 1 User.
We went in the summertime and there were a… It’s close to a lake and also not far from Avila beach/piston beach. It was sort of in the middle of nowhere, but a very cool campground and very close to the lake (about a half mile down the road).
The park is amazingly quiet - no light pollution, so the stars and fullPass on this, unless you like having nothing to do....Stayed at a KOA 8 miles outside of town. We were going to be staying in a tent but the weather was terrible. There are a lot of hills and many stairs to get to bathrooms but it makes the place more spread out and feel more private and quiet.
Several bathrooms all around the park. If you want remote peace and quiet, this is a good place for that, but if you want much else, I'd stay elsewhere. We were there at their off season, so things were very quiet.
We saw deer, wild turkeys, skunk and other wildlife all around. The campground is in a hilly area, which makes for some interesting sites.
In the rain!!!
We locked our keys and phones in our camper and Kim stayed way beyond her duty time to make sure we were able to get help from AAA. We also visited Kevin the Emu and one of the other staff members brought us food to feed him. Own or manage this property? It has a pool, large bouncy pad and lots of lawn games. The site description sounded nice as it was close to the bathhouse and walking distance to the pool.

The odor got worse during the night and upon going outside we were shocked to find raw sewage flowing down the campsite two feet from our trailer. Luckily we were able to get in pretty quickly and while the hubs was working to get in I kept the kids occupied at the swings and bounce pillow! The little store has everything you need. Cancel. My grandson loved the pool, playground and jumping pillow.
The campground is not the very slick, but that's not a bad thing; has a kind of homey feel. I was imformed that the pump has just been serviced.
We (me, the hubs and a 14 month old and 5 yr old) stayed in our camper and our site was decent sized and loved we had a fire pit!
I liked that it had some shade and was not close to any other site and there was water access. The KOA is only a 10 - 15 minute walk from Santa Margarita Lake Park, which is a no contact lake available for fishing and boating and has a wonderful series of hiking trails, which is what we were there for.
